Yeah, what a ball or where was I when that happened? It was forty years ago this summer that the migration to San Francisco occurred- the Summer of Love and that was it. It was over like an hallucinatory dream. When people woke up in 1968, there were so many people dead from drugs, some famous, others not so famous, you either sobered up or joined them.
So, when I hear about the Summer of Love, I shake my head and wonder, what would have happened to some friends I knew, if they had lived past the sixties or even the early seventies - "The scream of the ambulance is sounding in my ears."
Oh. here 's an interview with Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead. A sad reminder of all those acid trips which weren't enough for Jerry Garcia aka Mr. Trips. He died, unfortunately, as the result of using heroin for years. A stoned cold junkie. A slave to drugs.
What's left of the Dead are truckin' on to the bank under a different name now. They were very good businessmen. They made millions, promoting a life style jam, which was the ruin of many a young man and woman. Although I'm not blaiming them or anyone else, we all make our choices.
It's just the denial - a generation sweeping its cultural detritus under the rug.
If you want to puke on your shoes, David Crosby can't shut up. The man with a bad liver, hepatitis C, diabetes and sundry other ailments has an autobiography from 1988 written with Carl Gottlieb about the toll of thirty years of Rock n' Roll.
When you can't sing about dolphins anymore and make your money, come out with a cautionary tale that no one can possibly take seriously.
Anyway, Here's a an interview with Bob Weir: Link

>>Jerry Garcia aka Mr. Trips. He died, unfortunately, as the result of using heroin for years.<<
While I will not deny the fact that Jerry used drugs, he did NOT die from any sort of overdose.
Jerry died of heart failure ... a result of his poor eating habits, smoking, and obesity.

That's the DENIAL I'm talking about and it ain't a river in Egypt. Jerry Garcia used heroin for years, one of the most vile and wicked drugs known to humankind, all the symptons, heart failure, bad eating habits (you probably won't have the will power to stop smoking if your on H)were the result of H. The sixties introduced recreational drug use to youth and the future of youth culture on a wide scale and the drugs just got worse. Ask Eric Clapton who has a very respected Rehab, Crossroads http://crossroadsantigua.org/website/index.html in Antigua.
